2022 Ultima Handicap Chase Racecard Betting Odds

This Grade 3 handicap is run over a distance of more than three miles, with 19 fences to jump and given the tough test it offers, it’s no surprise that many runners here go on to be future Grand National horses. Read on as we preview the 2022 race, offering up our predictions, betting tips and live odds comparison.

This race is open to horses aged five years and upwards and is run over the Old Course at Cheltenham. The winner will join greats such as West Tip, Rough Quest and Wichita Lineman on the roll of honour, as well as taking home more than £50,000 in prize money.

The Ultima Handicap Chase is the first handicap horse race of the 2022 Cheltenham Festival, with this being the third heat on Day One of Cheltenham 2022 and this is the first chance to find a horse that is well-handicapped for a race which is usually run on good to soft ground.

David Bridgwater landed his first ever win as trainer last season when obliging with The Conditional, while Coo Star Sivola and Beware The Bear have been other recent winners of this encounter, with the class of 2022 making it look like another open encounter.

There will still be lots of multiple entries and uncertainty until we get closer to the start of the race, although Dickie Diver is the market leader at the time of writing and it’s easy to see why punters have wanted to come early for a horse who has put on a number of impressive showings so far.

Nicky Henderson saw his charge run pretty well when finishing fourth behind Minella Indo in the Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle two seasons ago and there was then a break of nearly two years due to injury before the horse returned to a racecourse at Newbury over the festive period.

Dickie Diver managed to run into second place when competing in a handicap chase over two miles and six furlongs, with Henderson declaring himself highly satisfied with that performance and there could be more to come.

Royale Pagaille is likely to be among the favourites for the Ultima Handicap Chase and this horse should line up for the Sky Bet Chase at Doncaster so much depends on whether the horse produces a lively showing as to which direction the odds go.

Master Tommytucker and Vinndication are other runners that are worth monitoring and a lot depends on the handicap weights afforded to each horse and whether any horse will benefit accordingly.
