Day Three of the 2022 Cheltenham Festival starts with the Marsh Novices’ Chase, with this race registered as the Golden Miller Chase and it’s a Grade One encounter that takes place over two miles and four furlongs, with this being the likely target of Envoi Allen this season.

There has been plenty of speculation with regard to where the Gordon Elliott-trained charge would be sent this season when it came to the Cheltenham Festival, although the betting odds now suggest that the Marsh is the likely destination for a horse who is trading at around the even money mark.

The seven-year-old has barely put a foot wrong during his career to date and has triumphed at his previous two outings at the Cheltenham Festival. Firstly came a 2/1 favourite victory in the Champion Bumper to announce himself on a National Hunt stage and that was followed a year later by a triumph in the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle.

Envoi Allen was sent off as the 4/7 favourite for that particular encounter and it’s been a smooth transition when it has come to his chasing career, with facile victories landed at Down Royal and Fairyhouse to imply that the horse has major claims when it comes to this race.

However, we have seen short-priced favourites flop many a time when it comes to Cheltenham and Hitman could be ready to lower his colours, even if other horses have effectively been scared off running against such a Cheltenham hot pot.

Hitman is a French-bred charge who is now in the Paul Nicholls stable and he ran fairly well when finishing second to Allmankind in a Grade 1 Novices’ Chase at Sandown in early December, so it could be worth considering the horse from an each-way perspective.

Allart and Shan Blue are a couple of other leading fancies and the latter has landed a victory in the Ladbrokes Kauto Star Novices' Chase on Boxing Day at Kempton which suggests that a decent showing could be on the cards.
